Ayurveda is a holistic healing science who's meaning is derived from two words "Ayu" and "Veda". Ayu means life and veda means knowledge or science. The literal meaning of the word Ayurveda is "the science of life". Ayurveda is a science of dealing not only with treatment of some diseases but is a complete way of life. Body, mind, and spirit as well as ethics, tradition, religion among numerous other things are all part of Ayurveda. The ultimate goal of Ayurveda is salvation, perfecting life on earth and then moving beyond that life.
· Ayurvedic Medicine originated in India about 7000 years ago.
· Ayurveda focuses on establishing and maintaining the balance of life energy within us.
· Ayurveda emphasizes a persons' individual constitution.
· Health manifests itself through the law of nature " Prakriti ".
· There are three fundamental universal energies that regulate all natural processes on both the macrocosmic and microcosmic levels. These energies are known as the " Tridosha " ( Vata, Pitta, and Kapha)
